Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma of English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared as the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, budget tax reforms and the arms control. She traveled together with President Ronald Reagan many times to summits and debate matters including and the Iran Contra controversy.
